What is a digital aerial fitting?
The UK moved away from analogue TV signals in 2012 as digital broadcasts use less bandwidth and allowed for more channels. A tv aerial installation is required to receive a digital signal to your home. An aerial fitter comes to your home to safely install the dish and if needed, helps with Fitting an Aerial Socket wherever you need it.
Do you have to get an aerial installed?
If you want to access the full range of Freeview channels available, you will need to get a tv aerial installed. Having an aerial fitted correctly requires knowledge of the best direction to aim the dish, as to get as little interference as possible. If you have an older existing analogue aerial, you won’t be able to receive any channels since the digital switch over, so you will need a new digital aerial.

Do multiple TVs need multiple aerials fitted?
As long as the signal strength and quality are reliable enough, you only need one digital aerial for multiple TVs. In order to do this, you will need specialised equipment to split the signal. Otherwise, it could display the same channel on both televisions. A TV aerial installer has the necessary equipment to split the signal while mitigating quality issues.
Do digital aerials work in rural areas?
Rural areas are usually located much further away from signal relays. David & Jack arrived to sort out our major TV aerial signal drop off. David took out a new smaller aerial on a shorter pole and got reasonable signal from both directions. Then installed the new aerial, masthead amp with new power supply and enhanced signal splitter under the TV, by our new Humax box.
The signal was the best ever in over 30 years here.
I also asked for a new FM aerial and Jack quietly cabled this from the mast, down the side of the house and through the extension utility to the lounge. Very tidy and works great. Also excellent value for money.

Everyone I spoke to was courteous and helpful. I could have had the work done the same day, but chose a couple of days later which suited me better. The chap tested the old aerial, confirmed that the masthead amplifier had failed. He quoted me a good price for a complete replacement and was able to do it immediately. It took much less time than I expected and he checked that the TV was now picking up a full set of chanels. The new aerial looks very tidy and I am pleased with the whole process.

The company called me after I had gone through checkatrade. I had already arranged an appointment with one company who subsequently didn’t turn up and the second wanted £180 for something that costs £20 at the very most. I called Digital Direct back and an appointment was made. I was called to confirm the appointment prior and they even managed to get me in a day earlier than originally planned. The engineer was on time, courteous and cleaned up after himself. It was half the price of what the previous company had quoted and the work/aerial came with the guarantee.
